Canada Supports Jamaica’s Rural Women and Youth Farmers with Super Elite Potato Seeds

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining has partnered with the Government of Canada to support more than 500 rural women and youth farmers through the distribution of Chieftain Super Elite potato seeds and crop recovery technology packs. The Mines and Geology Division (MGD) is reminding the public that a valid Quarry Licence is required to remove any amount of quarry material, including sand, gravel, marl, silt, and stone, from rivers, quarries, roadways, or any other designated deposits.

Jamaica’s Mining Industry Support Communities with Road Clearance and Water Relief

Despite some of them suffering significant damage themselves due to Hurricane Melissa, stakeholders across the mining sector have united to provide critical relief support. Their collective efforts have included the clearing of more than 300 kilometres of roads and assistance to affected communities.

Immediately after Hurricane Melissa, members of the Mining and Quarrying Association of Jamaica and the wider mining and quarrying sector acted swiftly, mobilising machinery, equipment, and manpower to restore access and provide aid.

MOAFM’s National Animal Tagging Blitz Kickstarts in St. Elizabeth

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, through the Veterinary Services Division (VSD), will commence a series of parish-wide animal tagging blitz activities aimed at strengthening Jamaica's livestock traceability, food safety and disease-management systems.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining has acquired a D6 bulldozer to enhance land preparation and pasture redevelopment at our research stations. This initiative forms a critical component of the Ministry’s wider food security strategy, aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and resilience.
