Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Pearnel Charles Jr, is calling on service clubs in Jamaica to support the ministry’s Grow Smart, Eat Smart national campaign.

Charles Jr, who was speaking at the Rotary Club of Mandeville’s Vocation Award for Excellence, held at Church Teachers’ College on Thursday, February 2, said service clubs are critical in spreading the Grow Smart, Eat Smart message.

The agriculture minister invited the Rotary Club of Mandeville to become the first service club to be a significant partner with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries’ Grow Smart, Eat Smart network.

“I want to invite the Rotary Club and all the members here to participate in our backyard farm programme. To participate in terms of getting into the schools, utilizing the Interact Club, to get the message out that agriculture is viable and it is an option that you can use to take care of your families,” he noted.

“The Rotary Club of Mandeville can be an example that will show exactly what the strategic partnership can do to get this message to the country, our children and to get farmers to support the mission. I hope that your members will accept this invitation,” Charles Jr stated.

He also commended the Rotary Club of Mandeville for the work it has been doing over the years, especially as it relates to providing support for the youth and elderly.

Minister Charles Jr congratulated the awardees, Isratech Jamaica Limited, Andrae Wynter and Tameka Hylton, who were recognized for their contribution to the development of agriculture and community involvement.
