The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining has acquired a D6 bulldozer to enhance land preparation and pasture redevelopment at our research stations. This initiative forms a critical component of the Ministry’s wider food security strategy, aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and resilience.

The equipment, valued at $59.163 million, was officially delivered to the Bodles Research Station on November 28, 2025. More than 1,000 acres of land are earmarked for redevelopment, with particular focus on the Bodles Research Station in St. Catherine and the Montpelier Research Station in St. James.

In addition, the bulldozer will support pasture establishment at the Minard Farms Estate, which serves as the genetic bank for Jamaica’s three indigenous beef cattle breeds: the Jamaica Red Poll, Jamaica Black and Jamaica Brahman. This investment will safeguard the genetic integrity of these breeds while promoting sustainable livestock development.

Looking ahead, the benefits of this acquisition will extend across other divisions of the Ministry, reinforcing our commitment to modernising agricultural infrastructure and securing Jamaica’s food security.
