The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Lenworth George Fulton, OD; a distinguished agriculturalist whose leadership and advocacy have significantly shaped Jamaica’s farming landscape.

Mr. Fulton served at almost every level within the Ministry and its agencies; beginning as an extension officer and later assuming the presidency of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS). He was widely respected for strengthening farmer representation, stabilizing the organization and championing improved support to the agricultural community. His leadership at the JAS helped solidify his national reputation as a credible voice for rural Jamaica.

His contribution extended well beyond the Society. Mr. Fulton also served as Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), and as Executive Director of the Jamaica 4-H Clubs; where he helped to shape major national programmes that boosted production, expanded youth involvement in agriculture and supported small farmers across the island.

During his time at RADA, he guided transformative initiative including the National Irish Potato Production Programme, the European Union’s Banana Accompanying Measures Programme and the USAID-supported Ja REECH Project. He also strengthened protected agriculture, expanded farmer field school training and enhanced capacity-building efforts for both staff and farmers.

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, the Hon. Floyd Green described Mr. Fulton as “one of the sector’s strongest advocates”. “He always puts farmers at the centre of every conversation and never hesitated to share his guidance, experience and passion for strengthening the sector” the Minister said.

Minister Green added, “Mr. Fulton’s passing is a great loss to the agriculture family, and I extend condolences to his loved ones and to all who had the privilege of working with him”.

The Ministry honours this stalwart and remains committed to building on the strong foundation he helped to shape.
