Milk Production Remains Steady in St. Thomas

The Jamaica Dairy Development Board (JDDB) is reporting that milk production remains steady for small dairy farmers in St. Thomas, following the provision of resources after the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

Data from the JDDB reveal milk production for 2024 of more than 352,000 litres from small farmers in the parish.

25% of New Agro-Park Lands Will Be Allocated to Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities

Twenty-five per cent of all new agro-park lands will be designated for women, youth and persons with disabilities.

This will be done under the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining’s new Feeding the Economy through Empowerment and Development (FEED) Programme.

Agriculture poised for further growth

The agricultural industry is poised for further growth this year, with significant investment in boosting productivity in fisheries, crop and livestock farming.

Increased focus will also be placed on the rehabilitation of farm roads, providing cold storage to reduce post-harvest losses and building the resilience of the sector to climate change.

Providing details of the initiatives to JIS News, Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining Minister, Hon. Floyd Green, said the fisheries sector will be guided by a development plan for the sector, which was launched last year.
