Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Hon. Floyd Green making his contribution to the 2025/26 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on May 27.
The Government will continue improvements to the country’s farm road network with an allocation of $900 million for the current fiscal year.
A total of 60 farm roads are targeted for construction or rehabilitation under the Farm Road Programme, said Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Hon. Floyd Green.
He was making his contribution to the 2025/26 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on May 27.
Minister Green said that the Government is ensuring that the roads are more durable, and as such, the programme will focus on road maintenance and drainage.
“We are not just spending the whole $900 million on new roads. We have earmarked $45 million to help us maintain roads that have already been done,” he told the House.
“We are looking to ensure that wherever we do a road, the appropriate drainage is put in and it can stand up for a long time,” he added.
The Farm Road Programme aims to significantly enhance access to farmlands, boost agricultural productivity, and support the livelihoods of rural farmers across the island.
Last year, $870 million was spent to complete 94 roads, including nine in the coffee belt, which encompasses the parishes of Portland, St. Andrew, St. Mary, and St. Thomas.
